Singapore, a small but diverse nation, celebrates its National Day on August 9th. This day serves as a reminder to foster unity among people with different cultures, and how it goes beyond national symbols, and the iconic songs we’ve sung in primary school. It extends to how we love and respect one another’s cultural differences. This celebration of diversity strengthens the social fabric of the nation, delivering a sense of belonging and unity amongst all who reside in Singapore.
What NDP means for us
NDP serves as a unifying parade that transcends individual differences and brings Singaporeans together. National Day celebrations provide a platform for people from all walks of life to come together, engage in shared experiences, and develop a collective sense of identity. When we see the spectacle that is the NDP, we are reminded that Singapore got to where it is today because of the combined effort of all its citizens.
How can I be part of the celebration if I’m not from here?
Don’t worry if you aren’t from Singapore, National Day belongs to everyone living here. Our beautifully diverse and united community belongs to all who wish to participate in it.
At Getting to Happy™️ we’ve picked two cards from our box set that you can use during National Day. Check out ‘Sing Your Heart Out’ and ‘Random Act Of Kindness’ from our Adult Box Set that you can apply:
1) Random Acts of Kindness
Pause and reflect on the little things we take for granted in Singapore, like cleanliness and safety. To inject some positive vibes, try a random act of kindness like clearing your food tray at the hawker centre, or holding the door for someone. This not only brightens other people’s day but yours as well!
2) Sing your heart out
Join in the National Day celebrations by singing along to the nation’s songs created especially for the celebrations each year. Pick up some dance moves that go with them and enjoy the show!
National Day celebrates peace and harmony, and we at Getting to Happy ™️ hope you can implement these values in your own lives too.
